Aheloy FAQ · Beach

Is Aheloy beach sandy or rocky?

Aheloy beach is a sandy beach. The sand is fine to medium golden grain with no pebbles or rocks in the main swimming area, making it comfortable to walk on barefoot and easy for children to dig and play. The beach quality is comparable to the sandy sections of nearby Ravda and the southern stretches of Sunny Beach, 6 kilometres north. Unlike some parts of the Bulgarian coast that mix sand with shell fragments or coarse grit, Aheloy's shoreline is consistently smooth. The beach runs approximately 700 metres and sits directly in front of the Midia Grand Resort's 36,000 square metre beachfront plot. Sunlounger hire is available in season, as is a beach bar and basic watersports rental. For UK visitors used to pebbly beaches like Brighton or parts of the Adriatic coast, the soft sand at Aheloy is a genuine comfort advantage, particularly for toddlers and older visitors who find hard ground uncomfortable. The beach is uncrowded compared to Sunny Beach, which makes it easier to find a good spot without arriving at dawn.
